

Under our contract with Bell, our mission is to provide the highest quality flight and ground training in the safest possible environment in accordance with Bell’s own syllabi to include the highest completion standards and qualifications. Our combined purpose is to provide a level of training that has the exacting standards of both UHI and Bell, and to train Bell’s customers to the highest level of competency. In addition to our contracted courses with Bell, Universal Helicopters has created a Center of Excellence in Scottsdale, AZ with unlimited possibilities which will enable us to create a specialized experience that will account for the customer’s individual needs.
With our unprecedented safety record, and the reputation of providing the highest quality training, Universal Helicopters will operate in complete alignment with Bell’s own in-house policies and procedures, while utilizing the Bell approved Syllabi for the Initial and Recurrent courses in the Bell 505 model for Bell customers.
It is our goal to provide a training experience for the Bell customer, which will have Exacting Standards in accordance with Bell’s Approved Training Programs.



The Universal Helicopters Bell Certified Training Facility, under the watchful eye of Bell’s own training personnel, takes pride in offering the most highly advanced and exceptional helicopter flight training in the Bell 505 helicopter. Like Bell, our primary objective is to supply the Bell/UHI customers with the highest quality training in a safe environment that includes, passing on our superior knowledge and skills with regards to all phases of flight. Our experienced instructor staff will also impart a high level of Ground and Flight knowledge pertaining to normal procedures, emergency procedures and general knowledge with regards to the Bell 505. We believe that a knowledgeable pilot that has had quality training that includes proper Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) training, will be successful in carrying out safe flight operations each and every flight.
At this facility, Universal Helicopters offers Private ab-initio training through CFII in the 505, and a Pinch Hitter Course. Within all of these courses, UHI will be utilizing Bell’s exclusive Power Point presentation designed specifically for the 505. UHI is the only company in the US that has authorization to use the proprietary presentation.
Since 1982 our company President, Dr. Gordon Jiroux, hc and his flight instructors have helped set the standards for excellence in flight instruction teaching students from all over the USA and abroad.



Aim of the Course
The primary Goal for all courses is to teach all the information until our customer has superior knowledge and ability. Once we achieve the level of proficiency necessary to enable our students to pass the appropriate examination/checkride, we will schedule the checkride within a day or two.
Once our students complete their rating, we will then spend time to achieve a level of proficiency in the environment in which they plan to operate their new 505. This extra training will help enable a newly minted pilot to safely operate their Bell helicopter with confidence at their home location.
Pre-entry Requirements for Bell Customers
Before commencing a Bell Approved course a pilot must:
- Hold a valid FAA Student Pilot Certificate.
- Hold a valid 3rd Class Medical certificate issued by an FAA approved AME.
- Show evidence of an English language proficiency assessment of at least International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Level 4.
- Provide a valid U.S. Passport or Certified State Issued Birth Certificate.
Training Aircraft
To support the Bell 505 training program, Universal Helicopters operates well maintained aircraft, which are equipped as required to meet the requirements of the training course. These aircraft are equipped with dual flight controls to allow for student or the instructor to control the aircraft. The aircraft are configured to meet FAA requirements, to include NVG training.
Completion Standards
To complete a course of instruction, each maneuver shall be performed at or above those standards as stated in the FAA Practical Test Standards for the level of certificate held. Upon satisfactory completion of the course requirements, a Certificate of Completion will be issued In addition to the certificate issued by the FAA Designated Examiner.
Attending Bell’s Transition Course
Once you have completed your training with us, you will be expected to attend the Bell 505 Factory 4 day Course. Upon completion of the Bell 505 course, you will receive a Graduation Certificate from Bell. Your insurance company may require this Graduation Certificate. The combination of training with Universal Helicopters, and then attending/passing the Bell Factory Course will generally enable you to get better insurance rates.

Universal Helicopters will provide the most comprehensive coverage of the Bell 505 series helicopter along with its, Operating Limitations, Emergency Procedures, Performance Characteristics as well as an in depth coverage of the Preflight and Systems.
Single engine emergency procedure training includes touchdown autorotations, hydraulic-off landings, and anti-torque system failure procedures in the 505 helicopter, with additional training conducted at your location. Flights may be conducted during day or night.
Through comprehensive demonstration and student practice, to include clear, concise, and honest critiques, exceptional results can be achieved. Normal maneuvers and emergency procedures in the Bell 505 series helicopter will be taught to exacting standards with the goal of obtaining above average results.
