FAA Requirements – Part 61
- Hold or obtain a second class medical certificate
- Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Obtain necessary dual instruction, and ground training until the standards are met.
- Pass two FAA written examinations (or one if applicant already holds another Flight Instructor rating).
- Pass FAA Practical Test
The FAA has no required flight or ground instruction times. However the 14 CFR Part 61 SFAR 73 requires pilots to have 200 hours of helicopter flight and 50 hours in Robinson Helicopters prior to their practical test.
